Bagasao Children’s Prayer Club: Zimbabwe

From the children:

Every week we learn about a different culture or people group needing prayer. We study their situation and pray for them throughout the week.

Please join us in prayer for the Zimbabweans.

The people and their lives:

Zimbabwe is a country in Africa. They used to be ruled by whites, and the blacks worked for them. After much fighting they gained independence in 1980. When the Africans took over their own government, all of the black Africans got a piece of land. The bigger pieces of land were split up. The plots they got were so tiny, the people could not grow many crops, so they would starve. In 2000, some thugs threw the few remaining whites away from their homes and destroyed their homes. Even though that land remains empty, the farmers cannot live on it, because nobody will help them learn to farm properly. The people are very, very poor.

Their main language is English. Lots of people get AIDS and die, so then their children are orphans. Many parents abandon their children. Some of the orphans cannot get in an orphanage, so the oldest is in charge of the younger children. Over half the population of 11,669,029 is under 15 years old.

The religion:

Christianity and traditional beliefs are the main religions in Zimbabwe. Though many Zimbabweans are not Christians and still need to hear the message of salvation, others are finding out that Jesus loves them and are asking to be forgiven.

Please pray:

Hannah asks that you pray that God will send missionaries to Zimbabwe, and that more will find out that Jesus loves them and will ask to be forgiven. Marissa prays that orphanages will have enough money to take in all the orphans. Elisabeth asks that you please pray that the Zimbabweans keep their faith in Jesus. Emily asks that you please pray that the Zimbabweans can learn about Jesus. Elijah thanks Jesus for their food and wants you to pray that God will take care of the children.

I Timothy 2: 1, 3: I urge then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for everyone. This is good and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
